Redundant Colon

Symptoms & Treatment for Redundant Colon

A redundant colon has no obvious observable symptoms, though it may lead to increased constipation. A redundant colon may lead to cramping and pain in rare occurrences, though it is usually harmless. Treatment involves surgical colon reduction.

  1. Definition

    • A redundant colon is a colon that has grown too large for the body. The extra colon length doubles on itself, sometimes becoming twisted.

    Growth

    • A redundant colon is not a rare occurrence, and is genetically determined. As one can have long fingers, one can also grow a long or redundant colon.

    Discovery

    • X-rays are used to search for a redundant colon. Under normal circumstances a redundant colon is found while searching for something else.

    Consitpation

    • Studies have shown a redundant colon may be associated with constipation. Surgical treatment is recommended if that is the case.

    Treatment

    • A redundant colon can be surgically operated on. The redundant parts of the colon are removed and untwisted if necessary.

Sabbath School

I went to Sabbath School today and what an impact it made on me. We are talking about the hole in the gospel. Its a series that shows us what we are missing in the world... poverty. Its so sad and incredibly heart breaking to sit and watch these young children dying and not being able to go there and help. Did you know that 26,500 children under the age of 5 die every day from preventable causes? That number is outrageous. When I become a nurse, I am going into the mission feild to help the less fortunate, to help these children and to make a difference like Jesus asked us to do. No longer am I going to sit there and do nothing. Take a stand with me today, Do something for someone else.... Buy a net to help prevent malaria, or buy them a cow, or give them a micro loan... Dont just sit there, do something today and help save a life.

Spring = Easter

Once again our family is in our local church Easter play. If you are interested in coming to see the play, please let me know by calling me or emailing me so that I can get tickets for you to attend. The play is free, but you will need a ticket for your seat. We dont want to over pack the church and have to send ppl away, or cause a fire hazard. Thank you.

Hirschsprung Disease

What is Hirschsprung disease (HD)?

Hirschsprung* disease (HD) is a disease of the large intestine that causes severe constipation or intestinal obstruction. Constipation means stool moves through the intestines slower than usual. Bowel movements occur less often than normal and stools are difficult to pass. Some children with HD can’t pass stool at all, which can result in the complete blockage of the intestines, a condition called intestinal obstruction. People with HD are born with it and are usually diagnosed when they are infants. Less severe cases are sometimes diagnosed when a child is older. An HD diagnosis in an adult is rare.

*See Pronounciation Guide for tips on how to say the words in bold type.
